The Brave Circles Project is an ongoing effort to engage youth and adults across the northern suburbs in an open and honest dialogue about healthy relationships and sexuality. As we work to make our communities healthier and stronger, we are now recruiting our first class of Youth Leaders to attend our Summer Youth Leadership Institute.
Brave Circles Youth Leaders are unpaid, student interns ages 15-18 (rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors) who make change in their communities by working together to address issues related to youth sexual health, identity, education and relationships. During the Summer Institute, Youth Leaders work on teams to identify a community challenge related to these topics and, by the end of summer, plan and implement a community project to address the challenge.
Examples of possible projects include a campaign to improve communication in healthy relationships or to decrease sexual assault, developing a new educational workshop for adults about how to talk with youth about sexuality and relationships, or creating a proposal to deliver to a school board or organization to have condoms available in bathrooms and waiting areas. Or anything else you can think of! While making change in their community, Youth Leaders also gain valuable leadership skills for college and career.
All are welcome; we highly encourage women, LGBTQ+ youth, and youth of color to apply.
If accepted, youth commit to attending a Kickoff Summit (evening Friday 6/23 and all day Saturday 6/24) in addition to weekly meetings on Thursdays from 4-7pm 6/29-8/3. Some project work will need to be completed outside of scheduled meetings
Applications can be found here, and are due Tuesday, May 9, 2017.
